Circle of Collaborative Communities
This Listing is a Password Protected community.
This project was created to share information about how communities become more self-sustaining, use less currency, and create what we need for ourselves. We are a progressive community, hoping that as we feed the current, dysfunctional system less — while still staying involved with all the aspects of progressive change we hope to see — the system may weaken and allow all of us a greater ability to affect positive change. So it's a long view.

Possibilities Alliance
Ethan HughesFounder of the Possibility Alliance, Super Heroes and community of radical simplicity, political activism and inner work.
Ethan Hughes talks about the continued commitment of he and his partner, Sarah, to Radical Simplicity, "inner" --personal/spiritual-- work, and political activism. Ethan and Sarah put out to the universe and their contacts that they wanted a community that embodied those qualities and very quickly raised the funds with which they bought, sight unseen, an 80 acre farm in Missouri . They never use cars except in dire emergencies so they took the train to Missouri and rode their bikes the four miles to their farm to see it for the first time. Ethan personally has been in a car seven times in the past ten years. On their farm they grow organic food and live sustainably. Their place is electricity free and therefore is also free of computer and other electrically powered technology. Over 600 guests have visited so far. They invite others to visit. Their community is also the Headquarters for the Super Heroes, an organization Hughes founded of young folks who go out to help where they're needed as, for example when 25 young people biked to New Orleans to help for a few months or more with the Katrina disaster.
One of the important guidelines by which they live and are consciously creating the future is the importance of experiencing joy in what they do. If they are not feeling joy they stop what they're doing until they deal with whatever is in the way and they return to joy. Nonviolent communication is also a way of life as is not paying taxes for war as well as creating their own art and entertainment. Hughes shares that one of the most interesting and wonderful things that they're learning in their local rural Missouri community is that the kindness of people is totally unrelated to their political affiliation and ideology which has been so influenced by the corporate media. The most important thing is to be in your heart path!

Alderleaf Wilderness College
Alderleaf Wilderness College's land is a developing small-scale ecovillage nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. It is located above the Skykomish River valley near the town of Monroe, Washington, 30 miles northeast of Seattle. Our 15-acre property is an evolving model of environmental sustainability. Alderleaf Wilderness College has its office and classrooms on site. The large forested portion of the land contains giant mossy cedars, a cascading creek, a diversity of wildlife, and several wetlands. It is adjacent to thousands of acres of forest lands with many lakes, streams, and mountains. The land is in the process of integrating a permaculture design plan. The farm includes cabins, houses, a large barn, beautiful pastures, garden space, and fruit trees. Housing is often available to students in our Wilderness Certification Program and others interested in being involved with Alderleaf. Residents share a passion for nature, sustainability, and community, and often enjoy the opportunity to grow organic food and steward the land.

Sustainable Baby Steps
Have you been asking yourself "How do I go green?" and feeling overwhelmed with the information you find?
Sustainability is at the forefront of everyone's minds but I'm hearing the same questions and concerns:
Does going green really matter? It's too expensive to go green or organic! But how can I make a difference? And where in the world do I start? Statistics According to Gallup.com, 42% of those surveyed are sympathetic towards, but not yet active in the environmental movement.
That's why I started this site. I love green living, and I totally understand how impossible it can seem to make such important changes in our lives.
I want going green to be something that inspires you, not overwhelms or frustrates you.

Mud Girls: Natural Building Collective
We are a network of women who build natural buildings for ourselves and each other, as well as helping others build their own.
We specialize in building with cob, as well as other natural material such as strawbale, driftwood, adobe, cordwood and recycled materials like glass, car tires, glass bottles and more.
There are two overlapping collectives within the network – one, a bartering collective that is local to Lasqueti, and a second that is worker-run and for-hire which includes women in Courtenay and Nanaimo, and on Denman, Lasqueti and Saltspring Islands.
The second collective is a consensus-based, non-hierarchical collective of women that support each other to gain training and employment.

The Business Alliance For Local Economies
The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, or BALLE, is North America's fastest growing network of socially responsible businesses, comprised of over 80 community networks in 30 U.S. states and Canadian provinces representing over 22,000 independent business members across the U.S. and Canada.
BALLE believes that local, independent businesses are among our most potent change agents, uniquely prepared to take on the challenges of the twenty-first century with an agility, sense of place, and relationship-based approach others lack. They are more than employers and profit-makers; they are neighbors, community builders and the starting point for social innovation, aligning commerce with the common good and bringing transparency, accountability, and a caring human face to the marketplace.
